Academic Policies

Knowing the policies and procedures for George Mason University as well as your chosen major/College can help support you in meeting your academic goals. You will find these important policies and procedures explained here. The University Catalog and the Office of the University Registrar are excellent resources for information on topics that are not covered in this section.

Academic Advising

We also recommend that students meet with their Academic Advisor at least once per semester to discuss:

  • navigating undergraduate education at Mason;

  • setting academic goals;

  • making connections to career goals;

  • learning about Mason’s academic resources;

  • understanding Mason academic policies and procedures;

  • accessing and using the degree audit tool, DegreeWorks;

  • selecting courses for your schedule; and

  • checking your progress towards degree completion.

If you don’t know the name of your advisor or how to schedule an academic advising meeting, you can find this information using the Advising Locator tool.
